Over the last few days, I’ve experienced deep loss through friends who are now family and family I can call friends. Sports icons and celebrities alike… when you have a connection to someone… it’s just that a connection. When I found out about the latest person last night, my heart was just bleeding for this young man. When I heard about Dean Smith while at the gym on Sunday, I needed a solid minute to get myself together. When I heard and think at Stuart Scott a few weeks back… God, I just want to go sit in the corner with the straight jacket. It hurts really bad!
No matter who is lost and when, when someone makes an impact on your life… you are forever changed.
It’s a constant reminder that life is precious and that we cannot let one second go by without being grateful for the life we have. We’re constantly reminded that we’re on borrowed time and it’s critical that we not wait another second to do what’s in our hearts to do!
It is times like this that require a bit of respite and comfort in that these people lived life BIG! They each did it in their own special way. They were one of a kind!
Don’t wait to let those you love know that you do and what impact they’ve had on your life. Embroiled in a riff with family or friends? Be the bigger person and end it. At the end of the day, it’s not that serious! Let’s love on each other and live life uniquely, courageously, authentically as the gift we were all meant to be. Let the phone calls begin!
